Even though he retired from the National Football League (NFL) in 1979, Hall of Fame inductee O.J. Simpson can’t seem to avoid the hits, which have come fast and furious since the 1994 murder of his estranged wife, Nicole Brown.

Simpson — who was charged with her murder, but ultimately was found innocent after the “Trial of the Century” concluded — is facing foreclosure on the five-bedroom Miami, Fla., home that he purchased back in 2000 for $575,000.

To see Simpson’s preforeclosure listing on Foreclosure.com click here.

In an odd twist, the lender apparently attempted to serve Simpson “on a daily basis” with foreclosure papers; however, “Juice” is currently locked up behind bars in a Nevada prison, “serving a nine-to-33-year prison sentence in a 2007 armed confrontation with sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas casino hotel room.”

According to the report from FOXSports.com, the attorneys for the former Buffalo Bills running back are attempting to have the foreclosure case dismissed. It’s unclear who is living in the house while Simpson rides out his jail term and/or what he intends to do with the property if he can rescue it from repossession.

Stay tuned.

“Like I always said, if I’m one of the top players in the game, pay me like I’m one of the top players in the game.”

– Terrell Owens

Former National Football League (NFL) wide receiver, Terrell Owens — who banked somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 million in salary, excluding sponsorship/endorsement deals, throughout his colorful 14-year career on the gridiron — recently rid himself of a $2 million condominium located in Dallas, Texas.

However, Owens — who played for the Dallas Cowboys from 2006 to 2008 — had to negotiate a short sale, accepting $1.6 million (about a $400,000 shortfall) rather than losing the property to foreclosure. FOXSports.com reports that this isn’t the first time that the outspoken and controversial wideout has made a short sale play, selling off another property at a $56,000 loss not too long ago.

The six-time Pro Bowl selection, who cracked into the league back in 1996 with the San Francisco 49ers where he played eight seasons, has experienced major financial problems since his involuntary exit from the sport last year because of a knee injury. In fact, he barely avoided jail time a few months for failing to pay child support for his young daughter in Atlanta, Georgia.

Owens, 38, who trails only NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice in all-time career touchdowns and receiving yards, recently held a highly-publicized workout for NFL teams in an attempt to keep his career alive. Not a single team attended and Owens remains a free agent.

It seems as though not even Charlie Brown is safe from foreclosure these days.

Los Angeles Times reports that a traditional “Peanuts” holiday scene that has been a seasonal staple outside of a home in Costa Mesa, Calif., for 44 years will be interrupted this month because of foreclosure. The distressed homeowners, who “strategically” defaulted in 2010 to hoping to renegotiate the home loan, were evicted from the property in late November.

In lieu of the unfortunate circumstances, the community has rallied behind the family, as well as its Christmas tradition, and the local government has agreed to let volunteers decorate City Hall grounds with the displaced “Peanuts” gang. In addition, several supporters have created a “Save the Snoopy House Fund,” collecting donations to help reverse the foreclosure.

To check out the official Facebook and Twitter accounts and to get behind the cause click here and here.

The bank has indicated that it views foreclosure as a last resort and is “exploring multiple options on how to get his property back” to the original Snoopy homeowners.

Now that would be a real-life Charlie Brown Christmas story.

The $7 million home of super successful singer/songwriter, Rihanna, in Beverly Hills, Calif., is the subject of a real estate short sale, according to several published reports.

The Barbadian beauty closed on the newly-built, eight-room expanse back in 2009; however, it’s apparently been nothing but a money pit ever since she assumed ownership.

In fact, the “Umbrella” pop sensation, 23, recently filed a lawsuit against the homebuilder, alleging that poor construction has led to major flooding problems that have caused significant damage. As a result, she has listed the mansion on the market for $4.5 million and will “consider all offers,” meaning that she is willing to accept less than what is owed on the mortgage to expedite her exit.

Typically, the lender that holds the note is tasked with making those types of shortfall decisions; however, it’s unclear if the lawsuit, which names essentially every party involved in the transaction, including the selling agent, will have an impact on the eventual outcome.

Ironically, her decision to get out of dodge appears to coincide with her abusive ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, recently purchasing a $1.6 million home nearby. Brown, of course, was sentenced to five years probation and more than 1,400 hours in “labor-oriented service” for assaulting Rihanna back in 2009.

Sometimes things really do seem to happen for a reason.

Check out complete details of Rihanna’s water-logged short sale house after the jump (via RealEstalker):

“Listing information from that time Miss Riri purchased the property shows the gated contemporary crib sits heavily on .86 hill top acres at the tail end of a short cul-de-sac and measures more than 10,000 square feet over three floors with 8 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. The heart of the hulking house is a dramatic airplane hangar-sized living/dining area with milk-chocolaty hardwood floors, fireplace, towering walls of glass with city to ocean views, and glass-railed bridge that connects two second floor wings of the modern mansion. Other interior spaces include a den/family room with fireplace, eat-in kitchen with not just one but two gigantic center islands, office, staff quarters, art studio, fitness room, media/music room, wine cellar and home theater with wide screen and state-of-the-art projection equipment. The gated grounds encompass a tight motor court with two-car attached garage, flat lawn the narrows to a small sun deck with city and ocean views, and a small swimming pool and spa surrounded by an entertainment terrace and deck cantilevered over the canyon.”

It’s turning into foreclosure “Rush Hour” on actor/comedian Chris Tucker’s 10,000 sq. ft. waterfront mansion in Lake Apopka, Fla., which is reportedly in distress to the tune of $4.4 million.

Orlando Sentinel reports that Tucker, who purchased the luxurious five-bedroom expanse for $6 million back in 2007, is in jeopardy of losing it after SunTrust Bank filed a default notice with the local Lake County courthouse. It is not his primary residence, which is perhaps among the many reasons he has not remained current on the staggering $25,812.50 monthly payment.

Tucker and and his power of attorney on the original home sale declined to comment on the situation.

With a combined salary of $45 million to star opposite Jackie Chan in the “Rush Hour” sequel, as well as the trilogy, including an additional multimillion dollar deal to appear in another New Line Cinema-produced film, it’s hard to imagine that Tucker is hard up for cash.

However, last year Tucker and the central Florida property in the prestigious Bella Collina neighborhood were the target of an $11.5 million Internal Revenue Service (IRS) lien, which was out to collect delinquent federal income taxes.

“Money Talks.”

Perhaps the most recognizable celebrity to emerge from South Florida, Burt Reynolds, is in danger of losing his 4-acre compound in Hobe Sound to foreclosure.

WPTV.com reports today that the 75-year-old actor has not paid his mortgage since Sept. 2010 and owes $1.2 million on a luxurious slice of coastal waterfront real estate that he has in the past referred to as his very own “Valhalla,” which is a majestic mythological paradise.

The San Francisco Chronicle details more about its many amenities:

The 12,500-square-foot compound is on 3-plus acres, bordered on the north by a national wildlife refuge. There are several detached buildings, including a main residence, a two-bedroom guesthouse and a gym-wine room-carport. One building contains a theater with more than 20 seats, an office, a billiards area and kitchen, overlooking a waterfall. The building also has a two-bedroom caretaker’s quarters. A pool on the grounds has a view of the Intracoastal Waterway, where there is yacht dockage and a helicopter pad. The water frontage is 107 feet long.

The 12,500 sq. ft. home, which Reynolds unsuccessfully attempted to sell for $8.9 million in 2009, was recently appraised at $2.4 million. It’s apparently not his primary residence — Reynolds spends most of his time at a home Little Rock, Ark., as well as in Beverley Hills, Califiornia.

Perhaps that’s behind the reason for his decision to no longer pay the mortgage. Reynolds, who has a 35.5 acre park named in his honor in Jupiter, Fla, which is a short distance from Hobe Sound, did not comment on the mortgage matter. He has, however, in that past revealed that it’s just “too much space” for him.

Money would certainly not appear to be an issue. Reynolds has appeared in nearly 100 feature films and 300 television episodes in a legendary career that dates back to 1959.

Retired Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher John Smoltz has an outstanding $1.6 million balance on a vacant piece of property in the Snake River Sporting Club, which is located in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

If the former eight-time All Star and one-time Cy Young Award-winner doesn’t reconcile the debt with his lender the property will be put up for public auction in a foreclosure sale on Aug. 23, 2011, according to Jackson Hole Daily.

It’s possible that Smoltz, who now serves as a color commentator for the Atlanta Braves, the team that he spent two decades as a starting pitcher and closer, simply walked away from the investment. Snake River Sporting Club was described as “troubled” and has been embroiled in a bankruptcy case since 2004.

Smoltz retired from baseball in 2009. He is the only pitcher in the long, distinguished history of the sport to record more than 200 wins and 150 saves in a single career.

The childhood home of Sen. John McCain’s wife, a three-acre spread in Phoenix, Ariz., is in default and headed to the foreclosure auction block on Aug. 15, 2011, according to The Arizona Republic.

It’s currently listed for $3 million in a short sale situation, which is $200,000 less than the new owner, an investor, paid the McCain’s for it back in 2006. However, the investor apparently sunk more money into the mansion, running the final bill up to $4.5 million.

The new renovations covered several upgrades, including an additional 4,000 sq. ft. of space. The home, which is where the McCain’s raised their children, boasts 11 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a “chef’s kitchen” and several outdoor bars, among other luxurious amenities.

McCain, who made an unsuccessful bid for President of the United States in 2008, moved to a penthouse “near 24th Street and Camelback Road” shortly before unloading their family home years ago. There is no telling if the couple would look to buy it back rather than see it go through the auction process.

Stay tuned.

Three-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter R. Kelly has not paid the mortgage on his 11,140 sq. ft. mansion in Olympia Fields, Ill., in more than one year, according to ChicagoRealEstateDaily.com.

As a result, J.P. Morgan Chase has filed a foreclosure notice on the luxurious two-story home, which “sits behind an imposing gate on a 3.7-acre site” and “features six full bathrooms, seven half-baths and a four-car garage,” among many other amenities.

Kelly, who purchased the south suburban Chicago estate more than a decade ago, has to get current on the $2.9 million outstanding balance or risk having it repossessed by the lender. Its current appraised value is estimated to be $3.5 million.

The report indicates that Kelly has not lived at the home for more than a year and made a deliberate “strategic default’ decision, hoping to trigger a loan modification by defaulting on the loan. It doesn’t appear, at least for now, that a loan modification is in the works for the “I Believe I Can Fly” crooner.

Throughout his career, Kelly has amassed an impressive library of hits as a singer, as well as a record producer. He should be, by no means, strapped for cash. However, the 44-year-old has also had high-profile legal battles along the way, including several charges of child pornography.

Then again, perhaps he’s just not interested in throwing good money after bad on a home that he no longer wants.

Carnie Wilson, one-third of the popular Wilson Phillips vocal group, is in danger of losing her home in Los Angeles, Calif., to foreclosure, according to TMZ.com.

The report indicates that Wilson is owes her lender more than $1.6 million on the property, as well as late fees and penalties for missed payments. And if she can’t get current or work out a deal, her house will head to public auction as soon as July 21, 2011.

Wilson has responded to the report, saying that the home is “in a short sale situation” and that everything “is so great with [her] family and [her] life.” So great, in fact, that they have already moved into a new place, according to Zap2It.com.

During her time with Wilson Phillips in the early 1990s, she sold more than 12 million albums, which included three number one singles songs. Wilson, who recently made a cameo appearance in the blockbuster “Bridesmaids” film, is married with two children.

She appeared on the “Celebrity Fit Club” in 2006, hoping to overcome her lifelong battle with obesity once and for all. Wilson managed to lose more than 20 pounds on the show, but gained it back shortly thereafter.
